Terms of use
The rules for using VideoCat, in plain language.
The short version: VideoCat is free for personal use. You are responsible for having the right to download what you download.
1. Agreement
By installing or using VideoCat you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.
2. Licence
VideoCat grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the software, free of charge, on any number of devices you own, for personal, non-commercial use. Every feature is included; there is no paid tier.
You may not resell, sublicense, rent out or redistribute the software, nor attempt to circumvent its licensing.
3. Your responsibility for what you download
This is the important part. VideoCat is a general-purpose tool, like a web browser or a screen recorder. What you do with it is your responsibility.
- Download only content you have the right to download — your own uploads, openly licensed or public-domain media, content the rights holder permits you to save, or use that is otherwise lawful where you live.
- Respect the terms of service of the sites you download from. Some prohibit downloading; using VideoCat does not exempt you from them.
- Do not use VideoCat to infringe copyright, redistribute other people’s work, or circumvent paywalls, DRM or access controls.
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your use of the software.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use VideoCat to break the law, to overload or attack the services you download from, or to build a commercial redistribution service on top of it.
5. Updates and availability
VideoCat depends on the structure of third-party websites, which changes without notice. Support for any particular site may break or be removed at any time. We fix what we reasonably can, but we do not guarantee that any given site keeps working.
6. No warranty
The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from the software is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost data or lost profits.
8. Termination
This licence ends if you breach these terms. You may end it at any time by uninstalling the software.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the updated date below will change. Continuing to use VideoCat after a change means you accept it.
